Side-by-side, all-in trip costs for US vacations vs. overseas trips, with round-trip flights from your departure city (Las Vegas (LAS) or Los Angeles (LAX)) included.

Why we built this

Flight search tools tell you where you can fly cheaply. They don't tell you what the whole week will cost. HomeOrAbroad puts a US trip and an overseas trip side by side, with flights from Las Vegas (LAS) or Los Angeles (LAX), lodging and daily spending in a single all-in number, so you can see whether "Europe is too expensive" is actually true for your trip. Pick your departure city with the "Flying from" switcher on any comparison; we currently cover Las Vegas or Los Angeles, and more departure cities are coming.

How we estimate prices

Flight ranges come from typical round-trip economy fares that fare-search sites (KAYAK, Google Flights, Priceline, momondo, Expedia, airline fare pages) published for each route from each departure airport we cover (currently LAS and LAX), viewed October 2026. Lodging uses published hotel averages where we found them (Engine's August 2026 US city averages; Budget Your Trip traveler averages abroad), adjusted to a mid-range room; otherwise it is an editor estimate. Daily food, local transport and activity budgets are editor estimates for a mid-range couple; where a Budget Your Trip average exists we set the range around it, but the range bounds are our own judgment and have NOT been verified against a single published source. Ski lift tickets use published 2025/26 (or 2026/27) resort prices; euro and yen prices are converted at editor-assumed exchange rates. Taxes, resort fees, baggage fees and tips may not be fully included.

  • Every price is a sample estimate, not live pricing or a quote. Prices change daily with season, demand and booking window.
  • We show ranges and midpoints, list our sources on every matchup, and date when we last checked.
  • Anything we estimated ourselves is labeled "editor estimate (unverified)" in the sources.
  • Before booking, always confirm the live price with the airline, hotel or tour operator.

Commissions never change our cost estimates or verdicts. We compare destinations on our own data, and we would rather you take the cheaper trip than click a link. We don't accept payment for positive coverage. If a page is ever sponsored by a tourism board or brand, it will say so clearly at the top.
